Colon Hydrotherapy Body Rejuvenation
What is Colon Hydrotherapy Body Rejuvenation?
Colon Hydrotherapy Body Rejuvenation, commonly known as a colonic, is the gentle infusion of temperature/ pressure controlled, filtered water into the colon using FDA approved equipment. As water hydrates the colon, waste is softened and loosened, resulting in evacuation through natural peristalsis. This may assist in cleansing the colon of accumulated waste material, gas, mucus, and/ or undigested foods and toxins.

Amethyst Crystal BioMat
In addition, the session is enhanced with the use of an amethyst crystal BioMat, which is a combination of far infrared rays, negative ions, and the conductive properties of amethyst channels; this helps to relax the muscles and increase local circulation...and on cold days, the heat simply feels divine. Other potential benefits as indicated by the Richway International manufacturer include: pain relief, immune system boost, reduced stress & fatigue, hormonal balance, removal of toxins, and rejuvenated skin cellular functions. Comprehensive Initial Intake & Vital Functions Assessment
For those clients who are new to colon hydrotherapy, our therapists understand that the first time may seem intimidating, and that clients may have some anxiety before their first session. We understand that the client's safety and comfort is of the utmost importance, and thus we are available to answer any questions or concerns potential clients may have before their first session. In addition, our therapists/ staff conduct a comprehensive initial intake and vital functions assessment to ensure that each candidate does not report any contraindications that would preclude him/ her from safely proceeding with a session.
For those who need a little extra reassurance, our therapists work closely alongside Dr. Fong, our in-house naturopathic doctor, for consultation as needed or for more complex cases. For clients who are existing patients, Dr. Fong may provide a prescription and specific recommendations to therapists to enhance their current treatment program and further personalize the colon hydrotherapy session. This synergistic relationship amongst the doctors and practitioners enables the team to provide a collaborative effort toward holistic healing.
Implants & Bio-Electric Lymphatic Drainage Add-On
For clients who are candidates and who desire an add-on service or implant to optimize the effectiveness of the colonic session, bio-electric lymphatic drainage (BELD) therapy and/or implants (coffee, hydrogen peroxide, cholorphyll + greens, ozonated water, & probiotics) are also available.* The culmination of the colonic itself, the gentle bodywork, the use of the Amethyst Crystal BioMat, essential oil aromatherapy and application, optional implant and/ or BELD add-ons, integrative approach with resident doctors, attention to the mind-body connection, and the serene atmosphere all contribute to Colon Hydrotherapy Body Rejuvenation being a truly restorative experience.

What does the colon do?
The main functions of the colon are as follows: to absorb water, vitamins, and electrolytes, to accept and store food remains that were not digested in the small intestine, and to eliminate solid waste (feces) from the body. Over time, the colon can become backed up with aged fecal matter, mucus, and/or gas, thereby becoming a breeding ground for bad bacteria and toxins. When material builds up, causing congestion of the colon, it can inhibit the absorption of nutrients. Furthermore, as this toxic material builds up, toxins can be reabsorbed into the system, and a number of ailments can occur, from short-term problems like constipation and impaired functioning of the colon to more serious problems like colon cancer. When toxins are not properly eliminated from our body, it can lead to auto-intoxication, which is poisoning by toxic substances produced within the body, ultimately leading to disease. Encouraging the body’s healthy intestinal movement
may help to restore the immune system and strengthen one’s overall health.
Why is colon health so important?
The colon, along with the skin, kidneys, and lungs, is a major organ of elimination of toxins/ waste. If bowel movements are irregular, waste products and toxins can build up, possibly leading to auto-intoxication. Some possible signs of auto-intoxication include: bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, IBS, leaky gut syndrome, colitis, fatigue, depression, poor memory, a weakened immune system, skin problems, lower back pain, excess weight, halitosis, coated tongue, body odor, headaches, and/ or menstrual problems. These accumulated poisons are often re-absorbed into the bloodstream, where they may be carried to other tissues & organs of the body, thereby compromising our health, & possibly preventing our other bodily systems from functioning at their optimal capacity.
How might I benefit from a session?
If we eat 3 meals/ day, ideally we should have 3 bowel movements/ day. However, most people only have 1-2 bowel movements/ day, if that. If so, then what happens to the rest of our food? If our elimination system is underactive, and the daily toxins we are exposed to from air, water, and food accumulate faster than can be eliminated, that puts us at risk for health issues. Colon hydrotherapy may assist in removing the excess fecal matter, as well as these toxins produced daily by our bodies/ environment, and therefore, can help to improve our health, and protect against onset of more serious issues. We hire personal trainers to help tone the muscles around our body, why not seek the assistance of a colon hydrotherapist to help exercise one of our body’s most important internal organs?
Please note that for your safety, if you have any of the following contraindications, there is a possibility we might not be able to proceed with the session: 1st/ 3rd trimester of pregnancy, Advanced Pregnancy, Abdominal Hernia, AIDS/ HIV, Aneurysm, Cancer, Chemo/ Radiation Treatment, Cirrhosis, Colon Surgeries, Crohn's Disease, Fissures/ Fistulas, GI Hemorrhage/ Perforation, Renal Insufficiency, Severe Anemia, Severe Cardiac Disease, Severe Diverticulitis, Severe Hemorrhoids, Ulcerative Colitis. *** If you are on Dialysis, colon hydrotherapy cannot be administered.
Before a session:
The days before the appointment, eat as many water content foods as possible, i.e. raw and cooked green leafy vegetables, raw vegetable drinks and whole grains. This will start hydrating the colon to ease your experience.
Try to cut down on all processed foods, i.e. white flour products, cheese, dried foods, greasy foods and sugar. These foods have a tendency to dehydrate the colon and can make the experience more challenging.
Avoid eating 1-2 hours before the colon hydrotherapy appointment.
Avoid drinking liquids 1 hour before. It can make your bladder full during the colon hydrotherapy session.
Avoid all diuretic foods one day prior to your appointment, including: coffee, tea or soda. These can dehydrate and also make the bladder full.
Drink lots of water in the days prior to your session to best hydrate yourself, but try not to drink too much water the day of your session so that your bladder is not full during the session.
If it is your first session with the therapist, please arrive 15 minutes early to complete the requested forms or please complete the forms by clicking on the link provided in your appointment reminder email.
At NaturalStart Medicine, Adrienne uses a state-of-the-art, FDA registered class II closed device, which uses a 3 stage filter and temperature and pressure controlled water. The client lies comfortably on a therapy table, and with the assistance of the therapist, connects to a Colon Cleansing device through a one time use, disposable speculum/rectal nozzle kit. The therapist then gently introduces low pressure water into the colon through the speculum, and water gently circulates through the colon, loosening and softening the waste material. When slight pressure builds up in the colon, which may create a slight sensation of cramping, the therapist adjusts the flow so that water can release, and fecal matter can evacuate through the waste hose into the device and straight into the plumbing system. As water and waste flows out through an illuminated glass viewing tube, the client can view their elimination. This process is repeated throughout the session, which can last approximately 35-45 minutes. Please keep in mind that you should allot additional time after the session for use of the restroom immediately following the session.
To ensure maximum sanitation, we use a new disposable speculum/rectal nozzle for each client, and the area is sanitized before/ after each session. Clients wear gowns for privacy, ease and comfort during the session. There is no odor throughout the session, and the integrity of the client is maintained at all times.
In addition, the therapist stays attuned to each client, using bodywork in areas that need attention. By working the body meridians and reflexology points, it can help to stimulate the bodily functions to work in conjunction with the colonic session, opening the gates for more release. For clients who are candidates and who desire an add-on therapy to optimize the effectiveness of the colonic session, implants (coffee, hydrogen peroxide, chlorophyll + greens, and ozonated water) or bio-electric lymphatic drainage therapy are also available as an add-on services (please see Bio-Electric Lymphatic Drainage page or Colon Hydrotherapy Implants page). Lastly, for clients who are existing patients of Dr. Fong & Dr. Carrie, Adrienne works integratively with both doctors to provide a collaborative effort toward holistic healing.
After a session:
It is best to eat light foods that are easy on the digestive system, i.e. steamed vegetables, soup and light protein (fish, chicken, tofu). Avoiding nuts, salads, and icy foods and drinks.
Drink more water to continue hydrating.
Adding ¼ tsp. pink salt to your water will help absorption.
Adding 2 tbsp. of lemon or 1 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar in your water can help alkalize the body.
Days following the session should be filled with vegetables (raw and steamed), soup, fruits, whole grains and pure water (not tap). Salads and raw foods have great enzymes and fiber.
For better health, avoid anything processed, bottled or canned; sugar, pasteurized dairy and all whites/starches (sugar, flour, rice).
For more in depth nutrition planning, consult a nutritionist and/or your resident Naturopathic Doctor.
Although there are no symptoms as a direct result of colon hydrotherapy, colon cleansing can sometimes stimulate the release of toxins from the body, which can result in detoxification symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, and/ or fatigue. However, every experience varies from client to client. Some clients report less constipation, more regular bowel movements, an emotional release in conjunction with their physical release, and/ or an increased sense of well-being and overall health. For all clients receiving services, we recommend hydrating well after sessions to help aid in the detoxification process.
